The Dubai Metro is one of the world’s finest urban rail systems — fully automated, air-conditioned, on time, and offering stunning elevated views across the city. Here’s everything you need to know about using it in 2026.

The Metro Lines

Red Line

The Red Line runs 52km from Rashidiya near the airport to UAE Exchange station in the west. It passes through 29 stations including Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina, and JBR/The Beach. This is the line most tourists will use most frequently.

Green Line

The Green Line runs underground through old Dubai, passing through Al Fahidi for the historic district and Al Ghubaiba for the Creek and Gold Souk area. Essential for visiting the historic heart of Dubai.

The Nol Card

The Nol Card is the contactless smart card used across all Dubai public transport. The Red Nol Card for occasional users is available from ticket machines for AED 2. The Silver Nol Card for regular users is available for AED 25.

Fares

Dubai Metro fares are calculated by zones. Zone 1 journeys start at AED 2, while a full journey across all zones costs AED 8.50. Fares are automatically deducted when you tap in and out at gates.

Metro Timing

The Metro runs from approximately 5:30am to midnight Saturday to Thursday, and from 10:00am to 1:00am on Fridays. Service frequency is every 4 to 7 minutes during peak hours.

Final Tips

Download the RTA Dubai app for real-time journey planning. During rush hours from 7:30 to 9:30am and 5 to 7:30pm, trains can be very busy on the Red Line.
